Math 229, Matrices and Linear Equations, Fall 2012
Matrices and Linear Equations is a sophomore level course mainly taken by computer scientists and engineers. Topics covered in the class included: solving a system of linear equations, determinants, eigenvalues and eigenvectors, and discrete dynamical systems. The class is mainly computational and can be used as an introduction to a more theoretical course in Linear Algebra.

Student Comments
"Cory is the best instructor ever! I have never had an instructor or professor teach as well as she has. I wish I could have more classes taught by her because she is so amazing at what she does. Cory is even part of the reason I switched my major from computer science to Math. Cory explains things very clearly and does more than enough examples to help us learn. Keep on doing what you do Cory!"
"Cory was always in class ready to teach on time. She took interest in how we are learning as well as interested in our personal lives as students. Cory really knows the material of what she is teaching, but more importantly she knows how to teach in a simple yet clear representation of the concepts. Thanks for an awesome semester and for explaining why all concepts of Math 229 are useful. The snacks were awesome as well."
"I have nothing but praise for Cory! She is truly the best math/stats teacher I have had. She is well organized in course objectives and purpose/application of principles taught. She balances definitions/examples/etc. in a way that, regardless, of learning style, helps the student to understand the material (not just memorize and spit back). Also, she makes her office hours and personal time available for aid. Thank you so very much! This course helped me in math 255."
"With the notes and examples given it is very easy to understand the concepts taught in this class. The enthusiasm and openness for questions of those who don't understand also make this class a great one."
"Love her - one of the best math teachers I've had in college. Very fair and understanding and helpful. She's clear and good at communicating and facilitating learning."
"Cory had an excellent knowledge of the material taught and was very open and welcoming. Encouraged student growth to a great extent! My one comment is that the class sessions could seem a bit tedious at times - thus making concentration difficult. I think some of this could be taught at a faster pace. Overall though, good class and instructor. Thank you!"
"Cory is one of the best instructors I have had in an academic career spanning a couple of decades. She is very invested in making sure the material is learned by the students."
"One of the best math courses I have ever taken. It really increased my knowledge of the subject. Cory was able to answer any and all questions I had and was able to help me choose further classes to take. Cory was able to help me with issues stemming from multiple years of not taking math class."
"Great teacher, extremely helpful and teaches clearly. Knowledgeable of the material and flexible enough to work with our schedules for spur of the moment meetings about the material."
"You taught at a good, decently slow pace. You asked for questions and explained the material well. You are also available for office hours and make that clear. I think you are a good teacher."
"You were a wonderful teacher! Thanks so much for making this class exciting to go to every Tuesday and Thursday."
"Cory was very knowledable about the material. She is also a great communicator and would always take extra time to ensure students understood the material. Awesome teacher."
"I thought this class was taught well. Instructor had great notes as well as examples to go along with them. Homework assignments are good prep for test. Probably Best Math Course I've tooken at CSU."
"Very clean cut teaching style. Down to the point and taught us what we needed to be taught. Made a boring topic somewhat tolerable and was fair in both grading and time management for herself and the students."
"Best math teacher I've had in 5 years at CSU. Classes were very helpful. Only ever needed the book to copy down homework problems. Overall, one of the best teachers at CSU."
"Cory was a great instructor. Very knowledgeable and excited. Loved coming to class everyday. I would highly recommend taking any class taught by her."
"Excellent instructor! Cory communicated effectively in all class sessions and structured material in a clear and efficient manner. She was enthusiastic about the course which facilitated better understanding of the subject. Cory was also extremely willing to help students outside of class and always responded promptly to any questions."
"I believe that the course was taught with a level of enthusiasm that made the material exciting, although the course layout was very fomulaic."
"Great class. The formulaic teaching style with definitions is condusive to my learning style. Thanks so much."
"Cory is an awesome teacher and finds ways to explain things in reallife/applicable terms. I took Math 369 the semester before this course and learned/retained more from this intro course than I did in 369. I would hire her for any job anywhere and would vote her for president."
"This was an excellent class with an emphasis on computation and theory. I really feel that it's prepared me for higher-level linear algebra courses."
"Good pacing and course structure. Easy to handle work load of class."
"Excellent Job!"
"Good Teacher. Good cookies. Boring class, required little effort."
"Cory you are awesome I am glad profs like you teach!!"
"Thank you so much for grading my work in a reasonable amount of time."
"Excellent instructor, very thourough (?sp) with notes, i have over 50 pages. She is also very knowledable in the subject and applying the class content."
"Cory is a great teacher and very enthusiastic about teaching and connecting with students. I personally know much of the material already and so didn't learn too much in class, but she did a great job of introducing material and doing plenty of examples. Overall, great teacher (especially within the math department, most teachers are soo boring)."
